В состав основных распознающих единиц иммунной системы входят лимфоциты, секретируемые ими иммуноглобулины (lg) и связанные с этим процессом продукты жизнедеятельности Т-клеток. Однако в процессе аллергического повреждения тканей почти всегда активно участвуют и другие циркулирующие лейкоциты, а также клетки, фиксированные в тканях, в частности моноциты или макрофаги, нейтрофилы, эозинофилы, базофилы, тучные клетки, а также тромбоциты и лимфоциты. Аллергические реакции могут проявляться различными способами: от а) гиперчувствительности немедленного типа со скоропреходящим пузырем и кожной эритемой, следы которой исчезают через 30—60 мин, до б) сильного васкулита, приводящего к отчетливому кровоизлиянию и некрозу с последующим повреждением данного органа — реакция длится несколько дней и в) хронических гранулем, сопровождающихся выраженными локальными воспалениями и фиброзами и длящихся месяцами или годами. Роль указанных выше клеток в аллергических повреждениях тканей была продемонстрирована в опытах с элиминацией определенных клеточных популяций цитотоксическими агентами с использованием антисывороток к компонентам клеточной мембраны, лизировавших клетки, или использованием животных с врожденным дефицитом. Оказалось, однако, что элиминация той или иной популяции обычно бывает неполной или недостаточно избирательной. Поэтому трудно исключить побочные эффекты, обусловленные взаимодействием между клетками различных типов.

Хотя в реакциях гиперчувствительности участвуют различные клетки, часто доминирует один определенный их тип — особенно на самых ранних этапах реакции или после того как реакция продолжается уже по меньшей мере несколько дней. Ответы при реакции гиперчувствительности замедленного типа (ГЗТ) Ваксман [1] классифицировал на нейтрофильные, моноцитарные, базо-фильные, эозинофильные в зависимости от доминирующего или наиболее явного типов клеток.
